UC Announces Opening of Patriot Steakhouse in January 2012

Williamsburg, Ky. – University of the Cumberlands (UC) is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Patriot Steakhouse, a new restaurant located inside the Cumberland Inn. The Steakhouse will be open to UC students in January 2012 and to the general public in February 2012.

“We are excited to bring back a full service restaurant when restaurant choices are limited in Williamsburg,” said Steve Morris, Vice President for Business Services at UC. “In addition to taking care of our local customers, the Patriot will help draw people from great distances coming to the area. We are changing the style of the restaurant to a casual family dining atmosphere.”

The Patriot will replace the Athenaeum Restaurant currently located in the Cumberland Inn following extensive remodeling designed to give the look and feel of a family oriented steakhouse restaurant. The new dining facility will feature a plethora of UC memorabilia and themed seating and the music selection will be more modern. Open seven days a week from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., the Patriot Steakhouse’s menu is currently being planned and should be released within the coming weeks.

“We wanted to make the restaurant less formal and more inviting to students and to our local community, and the steakhouse theme accomplishes that while adding a unique tie-in to the campus with our school mascot as the name of the restaurant,” commented Morris.

Along with dining, additional talks and plans for further use of the Patriot Steakhouse are in the works. Ideas and thoughts include a live studio for radio broadcast shows along with possible live performances from a variety of genres. Curbside service to go is a possibility as well.

“Some of the notable changes will be the replacement of the linen tablecloths to hardwood table tops with less formal place settings. We will be adding booth seating areas which we think will be as popular as our atrium seating area has been. Of course, the most important change will be our focus on great steak and other unique menu items served fast and friendly. We know our service has to be fast because we will no longer offer our lunch buffet. We are a popular lunch spot for business people in the area and with our changes we think we will have something for everyone, including our own students who will be able to eat at the Patriot as a third option on their meal plan. We'll still have our Sunday brunch buffet for our after church crowd, but menu service will be offered for all other meal times.”
