University of the Cumberlands Presents “What’s your Story?”

Williamsburg, Ky. - Stories are our apron strings. They tie us to our past, helping us build a sense of self and a place of our own in space and time.

On Wednesday, April 18th, University of the Cumberlands (UC) presents “What’s your Story?” The storytelling event, led by UC’s Dr. Sharon Smith, will take place in the Correll Science Complex on UC’s campus at 3 p.m.

Storytelling is as old as Gilgamesh and as fresh as “Just now . . . .” Each of us holds a treasure of stories. Some we have heard; some we have lived.

“What’s your Story?” builds on a strategy which has helped youth and adults mine stories long ago put back, forgotten in the goings on of life. This technique has helped many give life to a story they wanted to share. Others have surmounted writer’s block. Most importantly, these stories create new bonds in families and among new acquaintances.

Examples and strategies will be shared in a workshop setting. Attendees will have opportunities to develop and, if so desire, to share their story.

Talkers and listeners welcome as everyone enjoys the stories! This event is free and the public is invited to attend.

Located in Williamsburg, Ky., University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
