UC’s Student Government Association Honors Outstanding Students

Williamsburg, Ky. - On Monday, April 23rd, University of the Cumberlands (UC) held their 53rd annual Honors Day Convocation in the O. Wayne Rollins Center. The program honors students, faculty/staff, and special guests for their hard work and dedication throughout the academic year.

Every year the Student Government Association (SGA) honors two of their members that have demonstrated a hard work ethic and have gone way above the call of duty. The honorees for 2011-12 are Melissa J. Peplinski (Spokane, WA) and Samuel Huntley (Littleton, CO).

Peplinski has been a senator and work study since her freshman year. She has been a crucial member and has stepped up into leadership roles when needed.

Huntley is in his second year with SGA and currently holds the position of Secretary of the Treasury, which may be the most time consuming job as it requires leading extra meetings with the appropriations committees, meeting with administrators regarding the budget, and balancing the budget.

He has also been a fundamental asset assisting with the multiple campus events held on the UC campus throughout the year. Next year, 2012-13, he will assume the responsibility of SGA president.

Located in Williamsburg, KY, University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
