Cumberlands SGA Names Honored Professors


Dr. Sharlene Dzugan, SGA President Sam Huntley, and Dr. Dennis Trickett.

Williamsburg, Ky. – University of the Cumberlands (UC) Student Government Association (SGA) presented awards to the group’s honored professors’ during halftime of this year’s Homecoming football game.

The male recipient for 2011-2012 is Dr. Dennis Trickett. Trickett has been teaching in the Psychology department at UC since 1997 and is the Department Chair. Dr. Trickett is a member of the Society for Teaching of Psychology, the American Counseling Association, and the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors. He also lends his professional expertise to the Whitley County Board of Education as a consultant.

The female recipient for 2011-2012 is Dr. Sharlene Dzugan. Dzugan has been a professor in the UC Chemistry department since 1990. Dr. Dzugan is a member of the Kentucky Academy of Science, has been a faculty participant in the National Science Foundation Summer Program in Solid State Chemistry, and has collaborated on research projects with others in her field.

The purpose of the Honored Professor Award is to recognize professors that have devoted their time and energy into improving the quality of education and life on the University of the Cumberlands campus. These professors have displayed high levels of Christian values and have proven that they possess a genuine interest in working with students on a personal level.

Located in Williamsburg, Ky., University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; twelve graduate degrees, including two doctorate, two specialist and eight master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
