Bryant receives honorary degree from Cumberlands


Williamsburg, Ky. – On Monday, February 11th University of the Cumberlands (UC) awarded Mr. Ron D. Bryant with an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree during the University’s Recognition Program in the Gatliff Chapel.

Mr. Bryant is a noted Kentucky author and historian that is currently the manager of Waveland State Historic Site in Lexington, Kentucky. He is also the Kentucky political history columnist for the Kentucky Gazette in Frankfort, the editor of the Kentucky History and Genealogy Journal, a member of several boards for cultural, historical, and educational institutions; a renowned public speaker, and a teacher of American, Kentucky, and European history for the last 30 years.

Bryant has also had an outstanding career as an author of several hundred articles on Kentucky history. He compiled the Bibliography of Kentucky History published by Greenwood Press in 2000, completed a bicentennial book on Jefferson Davis, and is the author of the script for “The Price of Power,” a biographical film on Kentucky Governor William Goebel.

Over the years Mr. Bryant has received numerous awards for his work in education, history, and genealogy including the prestigious national Filby Award in 2005 for his contributions to genealogical librarianship. He has also appeared on and given over 200 radio and television interviews. Among the places his interviews have been aired are the History Channel and CBS Evening News. Bryant also has served as the historical commentator for KET for the inauguration of Kentucky governors.

Bryant believes in promoting Kentucky at every opportunity and he sees the vast potential Kentuckians have to better their state and nation. “Kentuckians are an unstoppable engine for good through education and a devotion to public service,” said Bryant.

Located in Williamsburg, Ky., University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; twelve graduate degrees, including two doctorate, two specialist and eight master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
