Callie Ethington receives multiple awards at UC

Williamsburg, Ky. - University of the Cumberlands (UC) presented Callie Ethington (Bardstown, KY) with the Gorman Jones Campus Leadership Award and the Outstanding Senior Spanish Student Award during the 54th annual Honors Day Program on Sunday, April 21st.

Callie, the daughter of Don and Cindy Ethington, is a Spanish major and English minor.

She received the Gorman Jones Campus Leadership Award for her many contributions both on campus and beyond. Callie has been a member of the UC Swim Team for all four years; is a member of the Spanish Club, the Spanish Honor Society, and the English Honor Society; and has been a senator for the Student Government Association, including serving as Vice President this year.

Callie was also named to the University’s High Honor Roll. Students recognized for this honor must attain a minimum of 3.85 cumulative grade point average standing.

She calls SGA her favorite service work because of “what you can accomplish for students” including recycling efforts, study breaks, and movies. Off campus Callie has served at the Patriot Steakhouse and has been involved both on- and off-stage for the Stephen Foster Musical in her hometown. She also traveled abroad to study in UC’s program in Salamanca, Spain.

After graduation, Callie plans to attend the University of Louisville where she will work on a Master's of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree, in Spanish, English, and English as a Second Language. She hopes to become certified to teach high school and, eventually, at the college level.
