Cumberlands Hosts June New Student Orientation

Williamsburg, Ky. - On Saturday, June 22nd, University of the Cumberlands (UC) held their first New Student Orientation of the summer, giving incoming students the opportunity to check out the campus and meet their fellow classmates. 240 students traveled from all over the country to visit campus, with this year’s incoming class shaping into one of the biggest in UC’s history.

Students were provided the opportunity to meet their fellow classmates and were broken up into their Insights class groups. During the morning session half of the students went to Insights while the other half had informational meetings about UC, enjoying “Cumberland Squares” which is a game designed for students to ask current students questions. Incoming students also participated in a Patriot Palooza using their smart phones before heading to lunch and then switching groups.

During the time that students were learning about the new roles and lives they would be stepping into as college students, parents were in the Rollins Center asking questions themselves to administrators as well as current students. Parents were also given the opportunity to learn about the academic curriculum and activities that take place on campus.

“Orientation is always an exciting time for the Admissions staff because, while it is the culmination of our recruiting efforts, we realize that it is just the beginning of what we hope will be some of the best years of these student’s lives,” Erica Harris, the Director of Admissions, commented. “I believe that Orientation helps foster a better understanding of what students and their parents can expect from UC and, in turn, what we expect of them. It’s an engaging experience for these students; one that we hope results in a great connection with UC and their newfound friends.”

UC will host their second New Student Orientation on Saturday, July 13, 2013. For more information on University of the Cumberlands Admission visit www.ucumberlands.edu/admissions/undergrad.
