Crystal Hanson Receives Angel Unaware Award

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - University of the Cumberlands is proud to announce that Crystal Hanson is the recipient of the Angel Unaware Award.

Hanson is the daughter of Rory and Mary Hanson of Knoxville, Tenn. She is majoring in biology and has a minor in chemistry. She has been involved in a myriad of activities, both on campus and off. She has been a Science Symposium volunteer for the last two years and a biology department work-study student she was a freshman. She has participated in two mission trips to Mexico, assisting a missionary who lives there by teaching vacation Bible school and handing out Spanish Bible tracts.

In her home church, she has led in vacation Bible school, teaches a children’s Sunday School class, helps with a Wednesday night kids class and plays piano when the regular pianist is sick. She sings Christmas carols in the nursing home, collects food and toys for needy children, helps clean the Ronald McDonald House and volunteers at the zoo at an annual fundraiser for the children’s hospital.

Perhaps the best description of her servant attitude is that whether in the Science building or off campus, she simply asks what needs to be done and then does it. It is her generous and dedicated attitude that has earned her the Angel Unaware Award.

The Angel Unaware Award was established to recognize a University of the Cumberlands student who selflessly helps others through acts and deeds of kindness, gives of himself/herself far beyond what is expected, is always there to lend a helping hand and does so without expecting recognition.

University of the Cumberlands, located in Williamsburg, Kentucky, is a private liberal arts college in its 117th year of operation. UC offers four undergraduate degrees in 37 major fields of study, 30 minors and nine pre-professional programs, as well as online and accelerated, nontraditional programs for adults.
