Zach Shannon performs in Senior Recital at UC

Williamsburg, Ky., - University of the Cumberlands (UC) senior Zach Shannon (Somerset, KY) performed his Senior Recital on November 2nd in the Nell Moore Recital Hall. Shannon played five pieces of music on the tuba. Kay Dawn McFarland accompanied him on the piano.

Shannon’s playing filled the recital hall for the evening. He performed “Diverse Moments #1” written by Robert Jager (b. 1939), “The Swan” from Carnival of Animals, written by Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921), “Sonata No. 3 in A Minor” written by Antonia Vivaldi (1678-1741), “Six Studies in English Folk Song” written by R. Vaughan Williams (1872-1958), and “Dimentia” written by Andrew Craegh (b. 1985).

“I wanted a variety and to keep people interested,” Shannon said. “’Dimentia’ is my favorite of all of the pieces.”

The recital lasted an hour with a reception following. Friends, family and professors congratulated Shannon afterward.

Shannon is a Music Education major and this is his 12th year playing the tuba. He said he hopes to become a band director in the future.
