UC’s Dr. Combs appointed to the Kentucky State Board of Accountancy

Williamsburg, KY- University of the Cumberlands’ (UC) Dr. Margaret Combs was recently appointed by Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear to the Kentucky State Board of Accountancy. Combs is the Department Chair and a Professor at UC’s Hutton School of Business (HSB).

Combs said, “I am honored to be selected for this prestigious Board and to be recognized as a professional who can positively impact the accounting profession in Kentucky by helping to maintain the high dignity and integrity of the profession.”

The Kentucky State Board of Accountancy is a state agency responsible for protecting the public by licensing and regulating Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and CPA firms in Kentucky. It also receives, processes, and approves applications to sit for the Uniform CPA Examination. Combs will be one of seven members of the board who will administer the regulations governing CPAs in Kentucky.

The Board of Directors of the Kentucky Society of CPAs submits three names for the open seat to the Governor. The Governor appoints one of the three nominees. Combs has served on several boards and committees of the Society, and she believes the nomination was in recognition of her long term service to the accounting profession.

“My goal for my service on the Board is to ensure the continued excellence of accounting education and the accounting profession in Kentucky,” explained Combs. “As a member of the Board, I am charged with enforcing the standards that ensure the public can trust information provided by a CPA. I believe my service on the Board will contribute to the mission of UC by preparing educated leaders to embark on professional careers. I hope that my students will see my long term service to the accounting profession as a model they would like to emulate one day.”
