University of the Cumberlands to observe Patriot Day for 9/11 ceremony


Williamsburg, Ky. - University of the Cumberlands (UC) will conduct a commemoration ceremony for the victims of 9/11 on Thursday, September 11th in Patriot Park at the Hutton School of Business. The program will begin at 12:00 noon. Commander (CDR) Will Moynahan, USNR will be the featured speaker.

Commander Will Moynahan was raised in London, Ky. and attended South Laurel High School where he was graduated as valedictorian. He matriculated at Harvard University from which he received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, magna cum laude, in June, 1999. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and earned his Commission through Officer Candidate School in December 1999. CDR Moynahan’s decorations include the Air Medal (2), the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal (2) along with other squadron and theater awards. CDR Moynahan has more than 2,800 hours in Navy jet aircraft, including 1,000 hours in the F-18. He also has 340 arrested landings aboard seven different aircraft carriers.

CDR Moynahan currently serves as a law clerk to Judge Eugene Siler on the Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. In October 2014, he will join the U.S. Department of Justice as a Trial Attorney in the Antitrust Division.

The ceremony is free and open to the public. The inclement weather site will be in the O. Wayne Rollins Center.

During the ceremony, University of the Cumberlands Marching Band will include a musical tribute to the lives lost during the Attack on America in 2001 and will honor the sacrifices American troops have made in defending America.

In observance of Patriot Day, the program will include a Retreat and Flag Folding Ceremony.
