Music scholarship benefit concert to be held on Cumberlands’ campus

University of the Cumberlands music department

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The faculty and staff of the University of the Cumberlands Music Department will present the 15th annual Phyllis Richardson Wood Music Scholarship Benefit Concert on Tuesday, September 18th. The music scholarship fund provides financial assistance each year to one or more students who major in the music at University of the Cumberlands. The family of Phyllis Richardson Wood, long-time resident of Williamsburg, established the scholarship in her memory and in honor of her ardent support of the arts.

The music faculty includes Jeff Smoak, Gayle Majors, David Etter, David Threlkeld, Patrick Tuck, Jim Corcoran, Sean Greene and Kay Dawn McFarland. Also accompanying during the performance will be Melissa Brooks Greene, wife of Sean Greene. Each of the faculty will perform on his or her principle instrument. Student Ashley Murray, this year’s Phyllis Richardson Wood Scholarship recipient, will also perform “Andante et Allegretto” on trumpet.

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 18th, in the Nell Moore Recital Hall of the Grace Crum Rollins Fine Arts Center on the campus of University of the Cumberlands. The concert is open to the public for donations of $10 for adults and $4 for students. All proceeds will go to the Phyllis Richardson Wood Scholarship Fund.
