University of the Cumberlands Presents Munro Memorial Award to Lisa Ann West

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - During Commencement exercises, President Jim Taylor of University of the Cumberlands awarded the George S. Munro Memorial Prize in Pre-Medical Studies to Lisa Ann West, daughter of Harold and Ruby West and the granddaughter of Robert and Georganne West, of Barbourville. The award is given in honor of Munro, a pastor and long-time board member at University of the Cumberlands, by his son, Dr. Roger Munro, and daughter-in-law, Nancy K. Munro. In recognition of academic excellence and effort, the award goes to the graduating pre-medical student who has achieved the highest grade point average throughout his or her college career. West, who has been accepted into medical school, earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree, with a minor in chemistry and graduated with the distinction of Summa cum Laude. To graduate Summa cum Laude requires an overall grade point standing of 3.95 to 4.00. In addition to excelling in the classroom, she has worked in the Academic Resource Center as a tutor for other students, served as an ambassador in the Admissions Office and worked in maintenance on campus. In her freshman application to Cumberlands, West wrote, “I wish to become fully educated, so I will feel confident in the pursuit of my dreams. . . I hope that in years to come, I can continue to be a help to those in need.”
