University of the Cumberlands chemistry students honored

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. —University of the Cumberlands’ Gamma Sigma Epsilon Chemistry Honor Society received the Best Chapter Award at the recent 43rd National Chemistry Honor Society Biennial Conference held recently at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York City. Additionally, two UC students, Christina Hayes and April Carman, who presented their research work on green chemistry at the biennial convention, received the John F. Conn Research Honorary Award.

The three students who represented Gamma Sigma Epsilon were Christina Hayes, a senior, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Hayes of Williamsburg; April Carman, a senior, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Stevens of Corbin; and Lauren Howe, a senior, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Rodney Howe of Dry Ridge. The chemistry students were accompanied to New York by Dr. Julie Tan, professor and Chair of the Chemistry Department, as well as Gamma Sigma Epsilon sponsor.
