Shelly Sexton’s senior art exhibit to be presented at University of the Cumberlands

Shelley Sexton's exhibit "Wo De Ren Sheng: My Life" is open through April 17.

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – University of the Cumberlands will present the opening reception for Shelly Danielle Sexton’s senior art exhibit from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, April 11, at the J.M. Boswell Art Gallery of the Andersen Building on campus. The exhibit, entitled “Wo De Ren Sheng: My Life,” reflects her journey through life and what is most meaningful to her.

Sexton’s artworks vary from paintings to sculpture; each piece is handled differently and shows how her overall style has developed over the past few years. She creates a new world in which all her emotions and events from reality are expressed in an abstract way. Sexton states that her sculpture entitled, “Childhood Memories” represents “my growth as an individual and as a woman.” From the baby shoes to the dolls and tiara, each item that makes up this unique sculpture has been collected by Sexton, who is a self-proclaimed pack-rat.

Sexton, from Manchester, Kentucky, discovered with the help of her middle school art teacher, her love for art and how it let her express herself more fully than anything else. It started her on the path that led her to major in art and minor in communication arts. After graduation, Sexton hopes to work at the Cincinnati Art Museum. In the future, she would like to return to school to get her teaching degree so she can share with the youth the freedom of art.

The exhibit will be open for viewing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 7 to April 17. Admission is free and open to the public.
