Local Wal-Mart donates to Mountain Outreach Gift Day
The Wal-Mart Foundation has given a gift of $1,000 to University of the Cumberlands Mountain Outreach to help support the organization’s annual gift day. On January 5, Toshua Harrrell, left, assistant manager of the Williamsburg Wal-Mart, presented the check to Marc Hensley, Mountain Outreach director, center. Also pictured is Bill Rice, store manager, Each year, students help prepare for gift day with a late-night shopping spree at Wal-Mart, where associates help the group shop, open special registers and provide cookies and milk for the participants. In 2009, 67 students participated in the shopping spree, and on Gift Day, in December, more than 400 children from 176 families benefited from the group’s generosity and the work of 167 volunteers.
