England honored at University of the Cumberlands


Allison England receives honors during Convocation.

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. —Allison McCrea England received one of two Gorman Jones Scholarships for 2010-11 during the 51st annual Honors Day convocation at University of the Cumberlands on April 26. She also was recognized as a student of Honor.

England, of Versailles, is a junior pursuing a biology major.

The Gorman Jones Scholarships were established, and are awarded each year in honor of Professor Gorman Jones, who labored from1891 until 1936 serving the youth of Cumberland College and the surrounding area. An excellent educator, Jones primarily taught history and French, but also taught Greek and American government. An active church member and Sunday school teacher, he was also a community leader and supporter of fine arts in Williamsburg. The Gorman Jones Scholarships are awarded to deserving students who show evidence of academic proficiency.

To receive recognition for Honor, a student must attain a minimum of 3.70 cumulative, grade point average.
