Dr. Barry Vann to speak at Phi Alpha Theta lecture


Dr. Barry Vann will present the upcoming Phi Alpha Theta lecture at University of the Cumberlands.

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. —University of the Cumberlands’ Upsilon-Upsilon Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta presents the third lecture of the 2010-2011 series at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8, in the Bennett Building Auditorium on campus.

Dr. Barry Vann, professor of education and geography and director of Cumberlands’ Ed. D. program, will present the lecture titled, Life and Death in Hurricane Alley, excerpted from his seventh book, “Coping with the Forces of Nature.

Vann has published numerous articles in addition to his six previous books. He is an expert in the field of geotheology, and his writings have appeared in such publications as the Journal of Transatlantic Studies, the Journal of Historical Sociology, and the Geography of Religions and Belief Systems.

The Upsilon-Upsilon chapter of Phi Alpha Theta was established at University of the Cumberlands in 1974. The group annually sponsors the oldest continuous lecture series on campus and publishes 'The Upsilonian,' a journal that has won the outstanding journal award for schools with less than 150 majors.
