Paul Pryor Earns Awards at Honors Convocation


Williamsburg, Ky. – The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Biology Department presented the ACA Ledford Research Award to Paul Pryor (Evarts, Ky) during the annual Honors Day presentations on April 25th, 2011 in the O. Wayne Rollins Center.

The Ledford awards provide stipends to student researchers in the Appalachian region to work with faculty members over to summer to gain important research experiences that can be a rarity in general undergraduate education.

Pryor was sponsored by Dr. Julie Tan, chairman of the Chemistry department at UC. He will graduate with high honor for attaining a minimum 3.85 cumulative standing.

Also at Honors Day, Paul was recognized for his memberships in the Beta Beta Beta biological honor society and the Gamma Sigma Epsilon National Chemistry Honor Society.

In addition, University of the Cumberlands presented Pryor with the George I. Alden Endowed Scholarship.

A double major in biology and chemistry, Pryor received the full tuition endowed scholarship for the 2011-2012 year. Following graduation, Pryor plans to attend medical school.

The George I. Alden Endowed Scholarship Fund, established in 1981 by the George I. Alden Trust, provides one-half tuition scholarships for six students and full tuition scholarships for two students; all of who must be majoring in scientific areas.

Located in Williamsburg, KY, University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
