JARED STAFFORD RECEIVES AATF FRENCH AWARD AND HISTORY/POLITICAL SCIENCE AWARD

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky- University of the Cumberlands presented Jared Stafford (Morehead, Kentucky) with the AATF Outstanding Student French Award and the History and Political Science Award during the fifty-second Honors Day Convocation on Monday April 25, 2011.

Son of Dennis and Jeanie Stafford, Jared will be graduating with a major in political science and a minor in French and history. He will also graduate with honor for attaining a minimum of 3.70 cumulative standing.

Stafford was inducted into the J.T. Vallandingham Honor Society on Honors Day. In order to be eligible for membership, a student must have completed at least 96 semester hours as a full-time student and have a 3.5 standing or better each semester. The student must have a cumulative standing of 3.7 or better. Students who have transferred to the University have a different set of rules depending on G.P.A. and number of hours taken at UC.

Jared was also inducted into the Who’s Who Among Students In American Universities and Colleges. Who’s Who is open to juniors and seniors who have been selected by the faculty and staff. These students have excelled in one or more of the following areas: participation and leadership in academic and extracurricular activities; citizenship and service to the school and community; and potential for future achievement.

Stafford has been a member of the history and French honor societies, Cumberlands’ varsity baseball team, and a volunteer with FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) at Whitley County Middle School.

This past year, Stafford served as Vice-President of UC’s Phi Alpha Theta chapter. “In class, Jared does not always represent the most popular viewpoint among his classmates,” said Dr. Eric L. Wake. “But he defends his point well and isn’t afraid to stand alone. He sets a high standard for himself and is respected for that.”

Following graduation, Stafford plans to attend Regent Law School.

Located in Williamsburg, KY, University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
