Lola Embree Receives Mathematics and Physics Awards

 


Williamsburg, Ky. - On Monday April 25, University of the Cumberlands (UC) held their annual Honors Day Convocation. The program honors students, faculty, and staff for their achievements during the academic school year. One of the honored students was Lola Embree (Louisville, KY) who was presented with the 2011 Esther A. Compton Mathematics Award and the 2011 Physics Award.

Lola, the daughter of James and Paula Embree, has a double major in Mathematics and Physics with a minor in Spanish and will graduate with high honor having attained a minimum of 3.85 cumulative standing. She is a member of the Kappa Mu Epsilon mathematics honor society and the Sigma Pi Sigma physics honor society.

The Mathematics Award is based on academic achievement within the major followed by overall academic achievement. Lola received the Encyclopedia Dictionary of Mathematics for this award.

The Physics Award is based on G.P.A. within the major followed by overall academic G.P.A. Lola received the McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms.

Embree was also inducted into the J.T. Vallandingham Honor Society on Honors Day. In order to be eligible for membership, a student must have completed at least 96 semester hours as a full-time student and have a 3.5 standing or better each semester. The student must have a cumulative standing of 3.7 or better. Students who have transferred to the University have a different set of rules depending on G.P.A. and number of hours taken at UC.

Upon graduation, Lola plans to get married in August and then attend graduate school the following fall.
