UC's Megan Sasko to Perform at Dollywood

UC’s Megan Sasko performs at the campus’ hit show Cumberland Idol. Hoping one day to make it to the big stage, Sasko will take the spotlight at Dollywood in Sevierville, Tn. where she has earned the opportunity to perform from August 19-22 and September 2-5.

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky- University of the Cumberlands student Megan Sasko has been selected as a featured summer performer at the Dollywood Theme Park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

A native of Williamsburg, Ky., Sasko was the winner of the campus’ hit show Cumberland Idol. She auditioned at Dollywood on guitar and harmonica with the song “Lonesome Pine”. After auditioning for the past three years, Sasko auditioned this year for pure recreational purposes.

“[This] year must have just been the right timing,” Sasko said. “I’m so grateful for this opportunity that God has laid before me. My family and I are praying that the right people and opportunities will present themselves during my time at Dollywood. I’m the only artist on the lineup that has yet to be signed, and hopefully that will change soon.”

Over the past three years, Sasko has continued to impress students and faculty in the southern Kentucky area through her performances on the Cumberlands campus and in nearby churches. A graduate of Whitley County High School, Megan’s voice can be heard regularly at Brays Chapel Church of God in Corbin, Ky.

“Megan continues to grow, especially in her performances of country and pop styles,” said Cumberlands music department chair Dr. Jeff Smoak. “This is exactly where she needs to be.”

Sasko can be seen at Dollywood from August 19-22 and September 2-5. Other artists that will be featured at the amusement park this summer are Grammy Award-winner Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, Riders in the Sky, and Rhonda Vincent.

Located in Williamsburg, KY, University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; nine graduate degrees, including two doctorates, a specialist, and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
