How many students are enrolled at Cumberland?
Enrollment for the 2004-2005 academic year for undergraduates was 1608. UC also has graduate work and a degree-completion program. Altogether UC has over 1700 students.
What percentage of Cumberland’s students are from Kentucky?
66% of UC’s students are from Kentucky. University of the Cumberlands also has students from 38 other states and many countries.
The minority ratio is 10.18%. UC has a very diverse student body; we have students from 38 states and many different countries.

The student-faculty ratio is 16-to-1, with an average class size of 27.

How can my son/daughter get help for his/her classes?
UC offers a free tutoring program at the Academic Resource Center. To get more information please visit the ARC webpage. Faculty are also available outside of class to offer assistance.
Are there computer facilities available?
UC has computer labs in most academic buildings including our library. We also have labs in some of the residence halls. You may bring your own computer is you wish, All residence halls rooms have Internet access and wireless access is available in some areas of campus.

Do many of the students live on campus?
Yes, most students live on campus. UC is a residential campus. All students are required to live on campus except those who meet certain requirements. To live off campus, a student must either be 22 years of age, married, have children, or live with parents. What is the security like on UC’s campus?
University of the Cumberlands attempts to provide a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Can a student bring his/her personal furniture and have the furniture in the room moved to storage?
Due to a lack of storage space, no furniture may be removed from the room. Personal furnishings may be added only if room size permits; however, such furnishings are not covered by school insurance
Are students’ possessions covered by school insurance?
College insurance does not cover personal belongings even in the case of fire, theft, or any other means of loss.
What are the size restrictions for refrigerators and microwaves in rooms?
Personal refrigerators should not exceed 3 feet in height and microwaves should not exceed 700 watts.
When will new students receive their room/roommate information?
Room information will be mailed early to mid-July.
How does a student request a roommate?
Roommate requests must be received in the Office of Student Services no later than June 1 prior to the opening of residence halls for the fall semester. Requests should be made on the student’s Housing Application or may be communicated by phone, e-mail or letter. Roommate requests must be made by each person involved.
During what hours are the residence halls locked?
Residence halls are locked from 12:00 midnight until 7:00 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays; they are locked from 2:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. After closing, students may gain entry to their residence hall by presenting their ID and signing in at the Bock Building Security Office.
Is it essential that a student bring a personal computer?
While it is nice for the student to have a personal computer, there are several computer labs on campus, as well as laptops which are available to be checked out on a daily basis through the Office of Student Services.
What if each student in a room has a personal computer…can they each be on them at the same time?
They may use computers at the same time if they use a hub; these are available on a limited basis through the Campus Networking Office or may be purchased at stores such as Wal-Mart.
Can parents visit at any time?
Parents are welcome to visit; however, because students have very busy schedules, it is best to plan the visit with the student.
How can a student be reached when an emergency occurs?
If the student cannot be reached directly in their room or through a personal cell phone, etc., a parent may contact the Office of Student Services during office hours, or the Residence Hall Director, Ms. Carter or Dr. Colegrove after office hours. These numbers are listed in the Parent Handbook for your convenience.
How does a student receive mail?
A student may receive mail through General Delivery at 7000 College Station Drive, Williamsburg, Kentucky 40769, or they may rent a postal box at the beginning of the semester at the campus Post Office (roommates often share a box).
How does a student receive packages?
Small packages may be sent to the student’s postal box; larger packages may be sent through UPS or FEDEX to the student’s attention, 816 Walnut Street, Williamsburg, Kentucky 40769. Students will be notified by the office holding the package; however, the student can only retrieve packages during the Post Office hours and must present their ID in order to obtain the package.
Where are the closest hospitals?
There are two local hospitals: Baptist Regional Medical Center is located in Corbin (approximately 20 miles north of Williamsburg) and Jellico Community Hospital is located in Jellico, Tennessee (approximately 15 miles south of Williamsburg).
What about access to doctors and dentists?
There are several doctors and dentists located in town, including Dr. David Williams who operates the campus health center as an extension of his local office. After an initial consultation with Dr. Williams, students may receive treatment or get allergy shots at the campus location. If students requires after-hours care, they should contact their residence hall staff for assistance.
Are students permitted in the residence halls of the opposite sex?
Students are permitted in the residence hall lobbies of the opposite sex during the hours of 10:00 a.m. until closing, or in the rooms of other students during Open House hours which are listed in the Student Handbook.

Yes, we offer an interest free monthly payment plan, administered by Educational Computer Systems, Inc. (ECSI). This is a convenient alternative to a lump-sum payment each term. See Financial Aid, for more information.
If my son/daughter chooses to use the monthly payment option, will he/she be charged interest?
No, he/she will not be charged interest. There is, however, an application fee of $50 per year, or $25 per term.
Due to sports and classes, my son/daughter does not have time to complete his/her Workstudy assignment. How will this change the amount that he/she is responsible to pay?
If he/she does not complete his/her Workstudy assignment, the amount he/she is responsible to pay will increase. Therefore, he/she needs to be prepared to pay the difference.
Can my son/daughter make his/her monthly payments on a credit card or automatically withdraw the payment from his/her checking account?
Yes, when he/she completes his/her application for the monthly payment plan, he/she can arrange this payment option.
How does my son/daughter purchase textbooks?
He/she has several options:
- The Bookstore accepts cash, checks, and credit cards
- He/she can charge his/her books (new and used) with a valid University ID card. The charges will appear on his/her monthly tuition statements.
Where can my son/daughter cash personal checks?
He/she can cash personal checks at the Bursar's Office. The maximum amount is $100.00. Also, some local banks offer free checking accounts to UC students.
If my son/daughter brings a vehicle on campus, must he/she obtain a parking permit and if so, what is the cost?
Yes, he/she is required to register his/her vehicle with Business Services. This office is located in the basement of the Gatliff Building. The cost is $25.00 per permit.
What if my son/daughter is undecided about his/her major?
Career Services offers career counseling to students through seminars or individual appointments. Interest inventories, personality assessments, and other resources are available to assist students as they explore career options.
Can you help my son/daughter get a job while attending college or upon graduation?
While attending college, students may qualify for federal or private work positions. These positions are assigned through the Financial Planning Office. Career Services assigns students as Presidential workers for positions in food service or physical plant. Part-time and full-time jobs, on an doff campus, are posted on bulletin boards in the Boswell Campus Center.
Prior to graduation, all students are encouraged to use the job search, resume' writing, interview skills and other resources available through Career Services. Students who take advantage of this service are much better prepared to enter the professional world of work.
