Family Groups

The Sweaty Pickles

Hi, my name is Andrew Morrison and I am the family group leader for THE SWEATY PICKLES. I am currently a junior at Cumberland and am pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. If you can not tell by the name we have a lot of fun in our family group. We participate in a different outreach project each month. We have adopted a little boy from Tanzania, we have sent goodies to the ROTC, and we helped put a roof on a porch. Our family group meets at Main Street Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. We would love to see you on Thursday nights at 8:00.

The Be-Do Group

Hey, I’m Brad Bell, a junior majoring in Religion and Communication Arts. This year I’ve been hanging out with a crew of people often referred to as the “Be-Do Group”. We’ve discovered that our overarching passion is investing in people through an overflow of being captured by Jesus Christ. We’re rooted in John 15:5, wrestling to intimately know Jesus (Be) rather than just Do a bunch of stuff for Him. Recently, the group provided (and survived) a youth lock-in at Blackford Baptist Church in Hawesville, Kentucky where eight people tasted new life in Jesus Christ. God is already opening doors for new ministry opportunities this semester as He has sparked specific things in our hearts for the campus, community, and beyond. Big Frank Vanover (our Creative Ministries leader) keeps us laughing, Sarah Burton (our Worship leader) keeps us singing, Louie Stuart (our Encouragement leader) keeps us edifying, Kelley Siefert (our Publicity leader) keeps the word out, and Ki Young Cha (our Prayer leader) keeps us on our knees. We gather on Thursdays at 8 pm in the youth ministry room at First Baptist Church (directly on the other side of the walking bridge over the train tracks). Hey—come Be with us!

Hey there,
My name is Kathy Stienbarger. I am a junior majoring in Religion. I enjoy candle lit dinners and long walks on the beach... JUST KIDDING!!! Actually what I enjoy the most is being the leader of an amazing family group. We don’t actually have an official name, but if we were to choose a word to describe ourselves it would be; Suicidal. Now before you think we’ve gone off the deep end, we’ve chosen this word because our group revolves around John 12:24-25. We are in the process of daily dying to ourselves and living for Christ. Our group has a heart for service. As to date we have sent care packages to missionaries, adopted a little girl from Kenya, and volunteered at a local food pantry. The future looks even brighter as we begin to plan a new semester of service. Come join us! We’d love for you to come and die with us every Thursday night at 8:00 in the the First Baptist Church's ministry center.

The Group

Hey, I'm Lindsey Beil, I'm a middle school education major...I know pretty dangerous...I like to live dangerously...our whole family group, "The Group" likes to live dangerously which is why we are devoted to serving Jesus. Together we have learned that "We are not what we shall be but we are growing toward it; the process is not yet finished but it is going on; this is not the end but it is the road, all does not yet gleam in glory but all is being purified." I would really like to take credit for saying this, however, this school has a strict policy on plagiarism, so this quote comes from Martin Luther. I think Martin Luther describes what our family group is really about. We meet together earnestly seeking the Lord, taking his word and applying it to our lives. Together we encourage and challenge one another and grow in our faith. This past semester we have sent a package to a missionary, served a Thanksgiving dinner at the Emergency Christian Ministries in the 'burg, and we are looking forward to further serving God this Spring through a disciple-now weekend in April. So if your interested, stop by Thursdays at 6 pm at the Angel-Dale House. We'd love to see you there!

Hey- My name is Paul Wilkes and I am a junior Biology major. Every Thursday night at 8 in the biology lounge I get the privilege to hang out with an awesome group of guys and girls. Our theme verse has been Romans 12:11-12, which pretty much says… HEY CHRISTIANS --- WAKE UP!! Don’t be satisfied with just going to church on Sundays and sitting in a pew, wake up and share the love that Christ has shown you. The Lord has opened up many ministry opportunities for us this semester and we would love it if you would come join us as we serve others and grow together.
