One morning, I was eating breakfast in the cafeteria with my friend Tabitha. I saw a small group of people over in a corner, sitting in a circle with their heads bowed. I figured they were praying, but I thought they were some sort of group or club or whatever. That night I was at BCM and I found out that they were just a random group of people who met every morning to pray from 7:15 to
7:45 in the cafe. They said anyone was invited, so I went. After the first time, I was hooked!
Guess what else happens on our campus with prayer? Every Friday, a group of people meet in the Bennett Auditorium to have a time of prayer and devotion.
It’s really cool because, like the prayer in the morning, it’s just random people getting together to take time out of their day. Know what else is neat?
It’s at 10am... the time Convocation is the rest of the week. That means that almost no one has a class at that time and everyone can come! People bring up prayer requests or just stuff on campus that is going on and we pray about it together. It’s really an encouragement and a blessing to me each week. You should try it some time.
As Christians, it’s important that we spend time in prayer each week. Not only is it vital that we pray on our own, but it is also necessary to pray with groups of believers. Whether it’s with your roomie, best friend, or one of the groups mentioned, you need to find some other Christians to pray with. “As iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another” says Proverbs. Prayer in groups will draw you closer to God, encourage you in your walk, and hold you accountable to your faith. So take some time to day and pray... both by yourself and with a friend!
