Job Description:

            The University is seeking a full-time librarian who embraces the student centered focus of an academic library.  This position helps to develop an atmosphere where students, both on campus and on-line, are enabled to reach their potential for intellectual, emotional and spiritual development.  Moreover, this position contributes to the fulfillment of the mission of the University in offering quality academic programs with Christian values to students of all backgrounds.

Term of Employment:

    • Full-time, 12-month appointment, Faculty Rank

    • Benefits available per University policy for full-time faculty/staff

Reporting to:

    • Director of the Library

    • Vice President for Academic Affairs

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage the Library’s Technical Services Operations

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures for Technical Services

  • Make policy and procedure recommendations to the Director of the Library

  • Provide cataloging (copy and occasional original) for books, eBooks, media

  • Maintain the local portion of the Library’s consortia managed ILS including patron record loads and local coding on item records

  • Manage access to electronic resources

  • Serve as OpenAthens Administrator

  • Serve as Administrator of the Library’s Discovery Service

  • Advise on acquisition decisions regarding electronic resources

  • Maintain Library statistics: collections, acquisitions, cataloging, and electronic resource usage and assist with completing statistical reports

  • Answer reference questions; in person, by phone, email, and chat

  • Collaborate with developing and maintaining research guides and library tutorials

  • Participate in providing reference assistance, library instruction, and outreach activities

  • Explore and integrate new technologies

  • Supervise Technical Services work-study student(s)

  • Oversee inventory of print collections

  • Serve as Federal Depository Library Program Coordinator (We are a selective depository with primarily electronic selections.)

  • Maintain membership in professional organizations

  • To serve the Library, University, and profession through participation in meetings, committee work, and professional development activities

  • Work one evening per week and weekend days as scheduled

Job Requirements: 

Minimum Requirements:

  • MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited program

  • Knowledge of ILS systems and cataloging policies and procedures

  • Experience with using emerging technologies to develop tutorials, resource access tools, and reference services

  • Knowledge of current research tools and awareness of trends in electronic research management

  • Commitment to providing prompt reference services in a variety of formats

  • Experience in using Microsoft Excel and other data processing programs for integrated resource management

  • Familiarity with using, integrating, and managing library discovery services

  • Strong written and verbal skills

  • Experience in providing statistical data and metrics for collection analysis and development decisions

  • Strong commitment to integrating Christian faith and professional responsibilities.

  • Willingness to support the University’s mission and adhere to employee policies

Preferred Requirements:

  • Familiarity with Innovative Interfaces Sierra platform

  • Familiarity with Springshare LibGuides and LibWizard

  • Experience in managing access and providing instruction for an expanding collection of electronic resources and tools

  • Familiarity with electronic resource authentication procedures and electronic resource maintenance

  • Knowledge of government documents policies and procedures
