SOWK236. Field Practice I and Service Learning

Students will be engaged in community service programs with community agencies as a fundamental part of this course. Students will begin by identifying a need in the community that relates to the student’s assigned agency. Further, students will develop a program as a response to the need and then begin to implement the program. Students will also participate in a seminar to address communication skills, relationship skills, and the study of and exposure to underserved and under-represented populations. Students will be required to complete 50 contact hours within the community. Prerequisite: Entrance into the social work program, entrance into the field education and SOWK 234. Credit, 3 hours. Offered spring semesters in-seat. Offered online each semester.
