Bio:
James E. Hightower, Ed.D., LPC, is a professor at the University of the Cumberlands in the School of Social and Behavior Sciences and past-president of the Greater Cincinnati Counseling Association. 

He is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Greater Cincinnati Counseling Association (GCCA), the Kentucky Counseling Association (KCA) and the Association for Specialists in Group Work (ASGW). As a Licensed Professional Counselor, he has completed a three tier training program to provide counseling services to military personnel and their families. 

His research interests include cognitive development of early childhood through adolescence and the application of metacognition by students pre-K -12.  He is also interested in the biopsychosocial perspective of addiction. Prior to being employed at the University of the Cumberlands, he has taught as an adjunct Professor at the University of Cincinnati in their Counselor Education Program, (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Lindsey Wilson College School of Professional Counseling, (Columbia, Kentucky). His teaching interests include multicultural counseling, group counseling, clinical supervision, ethical, legal, and professional issues in counseling, substance abuse, and theory. He has served as a board member of the Greater Cincinnati Counseling Association since 2015.
