Dr. Andrew Serce began studies in classical guitar in 2006 at Nazareth College of Rochester in New York earning a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree in 2010. He moved to Lexington, Kentucky to begin his studies with Professor Dieter Hennings and earned a Master of Music Performance degree in 2014. In May of 2014, Dr. Serce received a Certificate in Music Theory Pedagogy from the University of Kentucky. In 2015, he completed the requirements for the Initial Certification in Music Education K-12. Dr. Serce received the Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the University of Kentucky under the direction of Professor Hennings in August of 2017.
During his time at UK, he taught and codified the curriculum for the Beginning Classroom Guitar classes, directed the University of Kentucky Undergraduate Guitar Ensemble, and taught Guitar Techniques for majors. Currently, he teaches Guitar Techniques and Private Lessons for all UC students at the University of the Cumberlands. In addition to his adjunct roles at UC, Dr. Serce teaches at Georgetown College, teaches children at Musikgarten of Lexington, and is the after school strings teacher at the Sayre School in Lexington, KY. In his spare time, he composes music by commission for any instrument or ensemble.
