Phase 3 Housing Information

Housing Information

Fall 2020

University of the Cumberlands took a proactive and strategic response to addressing the impacts of COVID-19 to its campus and academic programs. A key component of our reopening plan focuses on campus housing. University housing staff has been working diligently this summer to prepare for students to return to campus. Below you will find information related to move-in dates, check-in processes, health clearance information, and more! If, after reviewing this information, you have additional questions, please contact Student Services at studentservices@ucumberlands.edu or call 606-539-4230.

Housing Health Clearance

Housing Health Clearance: Residential students must complete one of three options before checking into campus housing.

1. 14-Day Wellness Log: Students can select to complete a 14-day Wellness Log prior to arriving on campus. On the log, students will track their temperature and the absence or presence of COVID-19 symptoms. Students electing to use this option must have a Wellness Log free of elevated temperatures and COVID symptoms for the 14 days prior to moving into campus housing.

2. COVID-19 Testing: Students can select to complete a COVID-19 test within five (5) days of checking into campus housing. Students electing this option must provide a copy of a negative test screening to campus housing. The test results must be on letterhead from the student's COVID-19 testing provider. Please note, any costs for the COVID-19 screening are the student's responsibility.

3. Campus Quarantine: If a student elects not to complete and submit a Wellness Log or clear a COVID-19 test prior to arrival, the student will be required to complete the following steps before gaining access to campus housing:

  • The student will be referred to a campus COVID-19 testing partner to complete a COVID-19 test. Any costs for the test will be the student's responsibility.
  • Following the test, the student will be placed into quarantined housing until a clear COVID-19 screening is returned from the testing partner.
  • Please note, the student will not be permitted to access campus until the screening results demonstrate the student is negative for COVID-19. The campus restriction includes but is not limited to accessing campus housing, placing personal items into their residence hall room, attending campus events, athletic practices/competition, attending classes, visiting the wellness center, and accessing dining services. The student's student ID will be deactivated, and a daily meal box (which includes food items for 3 meals) will be delivered to the quarantined housing location once a day until a negative screening is returned.

Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before the selected move-in date/time. Please note, a student won't be able to reserve a check-in time through the housing portal (there are limited early move-in times available) until the request is approved. Students will not be permitted to check-in if they have not pre-registered for a check-in time.

Housing Check-In Process

To help reduce lines and wait times, residential students will pre-register for a check-in time with campus housing and have a multistep clearance process before moving into campus housing. There will be limited slots available for check-in during each time slot. Please note, community volunteers will not be available to help with move-in due to restricted building access.

Step 1: A student must reserve a check-in time through the housing portal. Students will not be permitted to check-in if they have not pre-registered for a check-in time. The timeslots include the following:

Step 2: Arrive at the Housing Health Hub no earlier than 45 minutes prior to the start of the assigned check-in time. The Housing Health Hub is the first step in the check-in process

What Happens at the Housing Health Hub?

  • Stop 1: The student and any family member who plans to enter the residence hall must stop by the Health Check-In Station. At this station, the student and each family member must respond to health screening questions and have their temperature taken. Once the screening is completed, each cleared family member will receive a wrist band that must be worn to enter the residence hall.

  • Stop 2: The student will complete all required paperwork and will receive details for which entrance to use for check-in at the residence hall. The student will also be given 3 lanyards. To reduce crowds, a student cannot have more than two family members in the residence hall at once. As a result, anyone entering the building must have a wristband and lanyard.

Step 3: The student will proceed to his/her assigned residence hall check-in entrance. Upon arrival at the building, the student must complete the final check-in steps and gain access to their room. We ask that family members remain at their vehicle until the student returns from checking into the room.

Step 4: The student is now cleared to move into the residence hall. A student can have two (2) cleared family members in the building with them at a time. The family member must have a housing lanyard and health wrist band verifying they have been cleared to enter the building. Once the student's assigned check-in window has closed, only the student can enter the building. This is to help reduce crowds and prevent lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What if I miss my housing check-in window? We understand that due to traffic and other unforeseen delays, students could miss their check-in window. If a student misses their check-in window, report to the Housing Health Hub when you arrive on campus for directions and assignment of the next available check-in window.

  • What if I forgot to complete the Wellness Log or a COVID-19? If a student does not complete the Wellness Log or provide a negative COVID test screening, they will be required to be tested for COVID-19 and remain in quarantined housing until a clear screening has been returned.

  • Can I have an overnight guest? Until further notice, overnight guests are not permitted in the residence halls, and visitation is only open to current UC students with a valid student ID.

  • How frequently will there be Health and Safety Checks? Health & Safety Inspections will occur weekly to ensure a clean and safe living environment for the residential community.

  • What if I contract COVID-19 and live in campus housing? Any student who contracts COVID-19 will be immediately quarantined until cleared by a health care professional.

  • What does quarantined housing look like? Students placed in quarantined housing will receive consistent support from our Student Services team. A member of our housing staff will check-in daily with the student to ensure they have access to needed support and medical resources. Daily meal boxes will be delivered and will include three meals and snacks. Students will only need to bring personal items (i.e. clothing, toiletries, etc.) with him/her to quarantined housing. Each room will include multiple amenities such as Wi-Fi, cable television, bedding, and access to showers.
