University of the Cumberlands (UC) recently had the pleasure of hosting the Connect International Conference for the first time in UC’s history. Connect International is a conference uniting international students from campuses across Kentucky while giving students an opportunity to celebrate their individual cultures and learn about the Christian faith in a positive environment.

The Hutton School of Business at University of the Cumberlands (UC) recently inducted new members into its chapter of the national honor society Sigma Beta Delta. Membership in Sigma Beta Delta is the highest national recognition a business student can receive at a college or university with a Sigma Beta Delta chapter. To be eligible for membership, a business student must rank in the top 20 percent of the junior, senior or graduate class and be invited to membership by the faculty officers.

University of the Cumberlands (UC) is proud to announce receipt of a $5 million grant from the Grover Hermann Foundation to renovate the University’s library into a 21st Century Learning Center for students, faculty, staff and community members.

On October 19, more than 700 University of the Cumberlands (UC) students stepped off campus to serve their local community. The service day was part of Pats Serve, a new program created at Cumberlands which helps connect students with people in the community through service work.

Lois McWhorter has been named the new Chair of the Hutton School of Business at University of the Cumberlands (UC). McWhorter was previously the Director of Special Projects at Cumberlands, a position in which she helped institute articulation agreements between Cumberlands and schools such as Somerset Community College and Pellissippi State Community College. She began serving as Interim Chair for the Hutton School of Business in February 2018.

The University of the Cumberlands is working with Kentucky Baptist Convention leaders to take steps to dissolve the Covenant Agreement between the two institutions. The proposal, which is subject to the approval of the messengers to the 2018 KBC Annual Meeting, provides for the University to elect its own trustees.

University of the Cumberlands (UC) is excited to welcome all high school students to Patriot Preview Day on November 3, 2018. Patriot Preview Day is held only twice a year and is an opportunity for high school students and their guardians to get an inside look at what life is really like at UC. Cumberlands will be providing a Q-and-A panel hosted by several UC offices, plus guided campus tours and other events special to Patriot Preview Day.

University of the Cumberlands (UC) recently hosted a career fair on campus for students to connect with recruiters from graduate schools, military organizations and corporate business who attended the fair. The Office of Career Services at Cumberlands offers a number of free services in addition to career fairs, such as résumé editing, interview advice and Career and Leadership classes. The office also posts approximately 50 jobs a day on online career platforms, including federal jobs, private jobs, business-industry jobs and more.

Appalachian Regional Healthcare partners with UC PA program at NKY campus

Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) has partnered with the physician assistant (PA) program at the Northern Kentucky Campus of University of the Cumberlands (UC). ARH will be providing 300 clinical rotation slots to UC Northern Kentucky Campus PA students. (Cumberlands’ PA students are required to complete 10 months of supervised clinical practice experiences in various fields of medicine in order to graduate.) Because of the partnership with ARH, students from Appalachia will be able to return home and complete these clinical rotations at ARH facilities.

Homecoming at University of the Cumberlands will take place Friday, October 19 through Sunday, October 21 this year. The theme “It’s a Cumberlands Thing” focuses on all the little things about UC that connect every Cumberlands alumnus.

Plates for a Purpose food drive begins at Cumberlands

University of the Cumberlands and Union College are partnering with Kentucky Harvest Southeast again this holiday season to raise food for local foodbanks. Each year, the colleges see who can donate the most food to local pantries before the holidays, which are typically the months with heaviest need for foodbanks. This year, the competition begins October 15 and finishes November 15.

Applications for University of the Cumberlands’ (UC) physician assistant (PA) program on Cumberlands’ campus in Florence, Kentucky are now being accepted. Those interested have until March 1, 2019 to apply.
