The purpose of the associate degree in psychology is to provide a liberal arts education, giving students the foundation for bachelors and graduate study, preparing students for careers in the psychology field.

Is an AA in Psychology Worth It?

People with an associate degree in psychology are eligible to work in entry-level positions in the field. Many students also take an associate program to save time and money with plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree down the road. 

As a graduate of our associate degree in psychology program, you’ll be able to demonstrate familiarity with the major concepts, perspectives, empirical findings and historical trends in Psychology; understand and apply basic research methods in psychology, including research design, data analysis and interpretations of findings; respect and use critical and creative thinking, skeptical inquiry and the scientific approach to solve problems related to behavior and mental processes; and understand and apply psychology principles to personal, social and organizational issues.

Courses for UC’s associate in psychology are designed to give the student a full view of the applicable areas an online psych degree can be used. Courses include, but are not limited to, Intro to Counseling, Basic Psychology, Social Psychology, Psychology of Personality and Abnormal Psychology.

Associate Degree in Psychology Salary

How much you’ll end up earning with an associate in psychology entirely depends on what career path you decide to pursue. On the lower end of the spectrum, home aides can expect to earn around $29,430 per year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). This may change, as the BLS also projects an employment increase of 33% through 2030, much higher than the average for other careers. On the more lucrative end, correctional officers make an average of $47,920 per year, though it varies from state to state.
