ESLO620. Methods and Materials for Teaching ESL

This course is designed for ESL educators and classroom teachers working with students for whom English is a second or other language. Candidates will explore the relationship of culture to language learning as well as non-linguistic cultural issues such as the concept of time/space, the role of the teacher, and concepts of health and common medical practices. They will learn ways to support learners’ adaptations to new schools and settings. Increased knowledge of language acquisition and function will help refine curriculum structures and instructional strategies that support effective language learning.
