Dr. Deaton began her career as a middle school math teacher in Laurel County (London, KY). She loved this position and was able to instill a love for math in the lives of many students. While in this position, Dr. Deaton trained teachers at an International PIMSER conference on engaging classroom strategies. Additionally, she served within her school on the PBIS committee fostering an atmosphere of good behavior and citizenship among students.

After completing her master’s degree through the University of the Cumberlands, Dr. Deaton came onboard at the University full-time as an Assistant Professor. In her role at the University, Dr. Deaton has served as a liaison between the Cumberland’s Education Department and the local school districts. She has also provided training for teachers in engaging classroom strategies and technology at both the local and national levels. Dr. Deaton has also served the campus by co-sponsoring the Education Club from which many local outreaches have been provided. She currently resides in Williamsburg with her husband and two daughters.
