University of the Cumberlands (UC) is now offering a program that leads to an endorsement in English as a Second Language (ESL) for students pursuing a degree in education.

“As Kentucky schools continue to experience growth in English language learners, our mission at UC is to equip our teacher candidates with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to serve all students,” said Dr. Shannon Deaton, Dean for the School of Education. “The ESL endorsement program provides an opportunity for students to diversify their skillsets by working with student populations from various linguistic backgrounds.”

The ESL program is offered through the University’s School of Education and is available for graduate students in an online format. The endorsement can be earned as a standalone credit or as a part of UC’s Master of Arts in Education program in addition to the “Teacher Leader” endorsement.

“UC’s School of Education is proud to offer a program that meets the needs of classroom teachers and furthers the purpose of serving all students across and beyond the Commonwealth,” Deaton said.
