A How-to for Winter Drowsiness

We all know winter can cause major drowsiness and procrastination. I get it; it’s cold out, so no one really wants to do much that involves having to get out of their cozy and warm beds. But, alas, there’s still homework to be done, books to be read, and practices to go to. So, here’s a guide to a few things you can do to help you stay motivated and inspired to be the best student you can be during this harsh cold!

  • Write a list of the things you need to work on, and make sure to include their due dates.
  • Order your agenda list of things from most important to least important and prioritize your energy accordingly.
  • Set a timer, start it, and completely focus on work for that duration of time. Take a short break after the timer goes off. Repeat.
  • Don’t get too comfortable (i.e., maybe your bed isn’t the best study spot), or you won’t stay motivated to finish your work.
  • If you start to feel burnt out, change your surroundings by finding a new space to do work.
  • Change your daily routine. Example: walk to class instead of driving on warmer days.
  • Make an effort to try new things, whether it be food recipes or new activities to keep things fresh so every day doesn’t feel the same.
  • Study or work in a well-lit room (I know most of us hate “the big light,” but sometimes you just have to turn it on).
  • And, of course, don’t forget to reward yourself for all your hard work! Good work deserves a lil’ treat.

Staying motivated during the winter months is no easy feat, but these strategies make it totally possible! By organizing your work, changing up your routine, and keeping things fresh, you can power through these cold, dreary days. Happy studying!
