University of the Cumberlands will be closed Monday, January 19 to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. Vidya Pingale is an experienced occupational therapist, educator, and academic leader with a strong commitment to student success. She brings over two decades of clinical expertise and academic experience to shape the next generation of occupational therapy practitioners. She is committed to advancing the profession while building a dynamic and inclusive learning community.

With a strong foundation in curriculum development, course design and revision, and program evaluation, Dr. Pingale has led comprehensive academic initiatives that promote curricular rigor and align with accreditation standards. Over the last two and a half years, she has successfully directed two self-studies and founded a new OTD program, demonstrating a deep understanding of accreditation processes and program compliance.
In the classroom, Dr. Pingale fosters student-centered learning environments that are inclusive, supportive, and empowering. She is deeply committed to mentoring students from diverse backgrounds and takes pride in creating academic spaces where learners feel heard, respected, and inspired to reach their full potential.

Her research interests include the development of children with disabilities, efficacy of occupational therapy interventions—especially for sensory processing disorders—and psychosocial and service delivery models in pediatric and school-based settings. Dr. Pingale has published in peer-reviewed journals, authored book chapters, and presented her research at national conferences. She currently serves as the Editor of the Sensory Integration and Processing Special Interest Section Quarterly Newsletter and is an Ambassador for the AOTA Political Action Committee.

Dr. Pingale has taught and worked extensively with children across various settings including private practice, early intervention programs, and schools. Her clinical specialties include sensory integration, autism spectrum disorders, developmental delays, and visual perceptual issues. She holds advanced training and certifications in Sensory Integration and Praxis Test (SIPT), Interactive Metronome, DIR®/Floortime, Neurofeedback, Therapeutic Listening, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Feeding and Oral-Motor Interventions, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.
