University of the Cumberlands’ English department and the department’s literary journal Pensworth are sponsoring The Next Generation Creative Writing Contest.The English department welcomes submissions of original creative writing, fiction, and poetry from eighth through twelfth-grade students who attend schools within a 200-mile radius of Williamsburg, Kentucky.To enter students must submit one piece of fiction or nonfiction that can be up to 20 pages or three to five poems. Pages can be single-spaced for poetry or double-spaced for prose. Ten- to twelve-point font is preferred. Students

University of the Cumberlands held commencement ceremonies last weekend to celebrate its newest graduates. Participants in this year's commencement ceremonies included graduates from 49 states and territories and the countries of Canada, India, Brazil, Spain, New Zealand, and Italy, among others. University of the Cumberlands recently hosted Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle on campus for the university’s annual Palmer Lecture, a lecture series formed to commemorate Dr. Robert L. Palmer’s many years of dedicated service to the Cumberland College, now University of the Cumberlands.Clapsaddle is an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee and is the first in her tribe to publish a novel.
