Dr. Aashis Luitel, a U.S. Navy veteran, is an Associate Professor of Artificial Intelligence and a technology leader managing security compliance and authorization programs for regulated public-sector platforms. He holds a Doctor of Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Cybersecurity, both from George Washington University, and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard. He previously led Responsible AI review, privacy engineering, and federal and sovereign cloud authorization for Microsoft's Security Copilot, one of the first enterprise generative AI security platforms, as well as for the initial agents built upon it.

At the University of the Cumberlands, Dr. Luitel teaches across the Executive Master's and PhD in Artificial Intelligence programs, with coursework ranging from graduate AI ethics to the master's capstone. He serves on PhD dissertation committees and advises doctoral students on AI governance, responsible AI, and cybersecurity policy. He architected the program's foundational ethics course, PhDAI 832: Ethics in Responsible AI. He holds his classroom to the same standard required for a federal authorization boundary: specific, accountable, and testable. His aim is to prepare the practitioners who will govern these systems to do so with clarity, evidence, and public purpose.

Dr. Luitel writes and speaks regularly on AI ethics, responsible AI, and technology policy, contributing commentary to national outlets and appearing on federal and academic panels.
