James Robert Bitter is a Counselor Educator who has taught for almost fifty years, over half of which have been at East Tennessee State University.  He is the author or co-author of four books, most recently Theory and Practice of Couples and Family Counseling, 3rd ed. (2021, published by the American Counseling Association). He is an international scholar and trainer in Adlerian psychology and therapeutic practice.  He has also studied with Erv and Miriam Polster (Gestalt Therapy), Virginia Satir (Family Therapy) and Michael White (Narrative Therapy).
