Patriot Park | University of the Cumberlands

University of the Cumberlands will hold a special commemorative ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Patriot Park on the university’s main campus in Williamsburg, Kentucky, near the Hutton School of Business.

Members of the campus and local communities are invited to gather at the foot of a steel beam recovered from one of the World Trade Center towers. The beam was donated to Cumberlands by Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley, who traveled to New York to assist in the aftermath of the attacks.

The ceremony will provide an opportunity to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, honor the courage and sacrifice of first responders and others who answered the call to serve, and reflect on the unity and resolve demonstrated by Americans in the days that followed.

The 25th Anniversary 9/11 Commemorative Ceremony is free and open to the public. Members of the community are encouraged to attend.
