University of the Cumberlands Honor Band Weekend
February 26 & 27 2027
UC Bands is proud to announce the second UC Honor Band Clinic scheduled for February 26 & 27 2027, on the beautiful campus of the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, KY.
The primary goal of the UC Honor Band Clinic is to provide a rewarding musical and personal experience to all our students. Members of all ensembles are selected through band director nominations submitted electronically. Open to all band students in grades 8-12.
Clinic Weekend Includes:
- Honor Band
- Guest clinician
- UC Concert Band in concert
- Sessions for band directors
Please read the following information carefully and encourage your students to be a part of this unique event. Once a band director or student completes the Nomination Form, another email will be sent to the student and band director about the audition requirements. Regardless the level of the students, the organization of the UC Honor Band Clinic promotes a positive and fun learning experience for every student.
Nomination Form
Band directors and students may complete the Nomination Form on the website. A separate form will need to be submitted for each student. We will make every effort to include all students who are nominated, within the limitations we face in achieving balanced instrumentation. Additional information may be requested from band directors to help narrow down the list of students from their school, if needed.
Deadline:
Nomination Forms must be received by December 18, 2026. The results will be announced via e-mail to all band directors and students participating in the honor band on January 29, 2027.
Fee:
Each student admitted to the clinic will need to pay $30.00. This fee can be paid online or sent by check once the student knows they have been accepted. Details will be sent at a later date. Students or directors can pay cash or make checks payable to UC BANDS. We will also have a link to pay online that will be sent out via email.
Timeline for Honor Band Clinic:
- New Deadline is December 18, 2026 – Band Director or Student submits nomination form
- January 8, 2027 – Last day for students to submit audition materials
- January 29, 2027 – Honor Band Participants are notified of band/chair placement
- February 26 & 27 2026 – Honor Band Clinic

Honors Band Guest Clinicians
Dr. Larry Petersen
Director of Bands
Marshall High School
Marshall, Minnesota
Dr. Larry Petersen serves as the band director at Marshall High School where he directs three concert bands, jazz ensembles, athletic bands, and the Marshall Tiger Marching Band. In addition, he also teaches courses in Beginning Guitar, and the History of Blues, Jazz and Rock. Dr. Petersen also teaches Music Appreciation classes online for the University of the Cumberlands. Prior to arriving in Marshall, Petersen served as the Assistant Director of Bands and Instrumental Music Education at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. Petersen earned his bachelor's degree from South Dakota State University where he majored in Music Education. He holds a master's degree in conducting from the University of Manitoba, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in conducting from The University of Iowa. He has served as President of the South Dakota Bandmasters Association and the South Dakota chapter of Phi Beta Mu (international bandmasters fraternity). Petersen has twice presented research on the utilization of the iPad in the rehearsal setting at the South Dakota Teaching and Innovation in Education convention, and at the Internationale Gesellschaft Zur Ergorschung and Forderung der Blasmusik in Wadgassen, Germany. He was twice named Huron, SD high school Teacher of the Year (2000 and 2008).
Mr. Caleb Packman, ‘23
Assistant Director of Bands
North Hardin High School
Radcliff, Kentucky
Caleb Packman is the Assistant Director of Bands at North Hardin High School. During his time at North Hardin, he has helped all three concert bands earn numerous honors, including multiple Distinguished ratings at KMEA District Assessments and a Distinguished rating at the 2026 KMEA State Assessment. Mr. Packman also assisted in preparing the North Hardin Wind Symphony for its performance at the 2025 Phi Beta Mu Concert Band Festival. An active member of KMEA District 4; he serves as the district’s 2026 Concert Band Chair.
As a performer, Mr. Packman plays with Louisville Winds and performed at the 2025 International Band and Orchestra Midwest Clinic and is set to perform at the 2027 American Bandmasters Association Convention in Kansas City . He regularly performs throughout the Louisville area with the ensemble.
Mr. Packman Graduated from Central Hardin High School in 2019, and graduated from University of the Cumberlands in 2023 with a Bachelor of Music, (P-12) Education.
