University of the Cumberlands (UC) has entered into an articulation agreement with Somerset Community College (SCC) to provide a more seamless pathway for SCC students completing the Associate of Applied Science degree in Accounting to move toward completion of the Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

“Building clear pathways to success for our transfer students is an integral part of SCC’s mission, and we are excited to provide this opportunity with UC to help our students achieve their academic goals,” said Dr. Clint Hayes, SCC Interim Provost.

Upon successful completion of the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Accounting from SCC, coursework will be applied toward the requirements of the Bachelor in Science degree in Accounting from the Hutton School of Business at Cumberlands. All students earning the A.A.S. in Accounting from any SCC campus may transfer up to 92 credit hours to their Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Cumberlands. Students can complete all coursework online at an affordable tuition rate.

“It’s an exciting day to take the next step with our partners from Somerset Community College,” said Dr. Christopher Leskiw, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at Cumberlands. “This articulation agreement is an investment in the future of our students, as it provides a seamless pathway toward them reaching their dreams.  It is my hope that agreements like these continue to develop as they link educational partners in service to the people and communities of Kentucky.”

Dr. Vonda Moore, director of the DBA program at Cumberlands, says a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Hutton School of Business prepares graduates for potential careers in public and corporate accounting, tax planning and compliance, auditing, and government agencies, among other areas.

“We commend University of the Cumberlands for their efforts, and we support the expansion of their accounting program,” said Samantha Soutar, Membership Development Manager for the Kentucky Society of CPAs.
