The online Master of Science in Information Systems Security program equips students to advance in the growing field.
As technology becomes more embedded in society’s DNA, the need for cybersecurity professionals has increased. University of the Cumberlands’ Online Master of Science in Information Systems Security program equips students to advance in the growing field. Most recently, the program received a No. 1 ranking in Cybersecurity Guides’ 2025 Rankings for Best Programs.
“Cybersecurity threats are everywhere, so it’s imperative we train students to identify risks, address vulnerabilities, and respond quickly to security challenges,” said Dr. Machica McClain, Dean of the School of IT. “Cybersecurity guides’ ranking reflects the dedication of our faculty, staff, and administrators to shaping future leaders in this critical field.”
Cybersecurity Guide, an established resource for cybersecurity professionals, utilizes a comprehensive ranking methodology to achieve their results. Data is collected from the National Center for Education Statistics, specifically from their Integrated Postsecondary Data System and College Navigator, and is used alongside university website information. The following criteria are considered in the analysis: availability of online options, Centers for Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity designations, student-to-faculty ratio, admission and graduation rates, and tuition cost.
“Working professionals need flexibility, quality, and results from their online education. Our program is on par with an in-person educational experience, and we pride ourselves on providing students with the hard and soft skills needed to grow and excel in their careers,” explained Dr. McClain.
Cumberlands’ Master of Science in Information Systems Security program consists of 31 credit hours and can be completed in as little as a year. Curriculum is designed to engage students in theories, strategies, and tactics for critical fields such as security policy development, federal regulation compliance, and disaster prevention, among others. Coursework will challenge students to expand their industry knowledge and apply course concepts to real-world scenarios.
