University of the Cumberlands Ranked No. 1 Best Value College in Kentucky for 2026

A college degree is an investment. University of the Cumberlands just topped the list for making that investment count. 

Cumberlands has been named the No. 1 Best Value College in Kentucky for 2026 by Research.com, a leading academic platform. The recognition highlights the university’s commitment to delivering high-quality, outcome-driven education at a cost students and families can afford. 

Each year, Research.com ranks colleges across the United States based on their ability to combine academic excellence, affordability, and projected alumni earnings. The platform’s methodology, guided by the Entropy method from Decision Making Theory, relies on trusted sources such as the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), Peterson’s, and OpenAlex. The 2026 rankings were compiled by a data science team led by Imed Bouchrika, Ph.D., and Pawel Dabrowski, Ph.D. 

Cumberlands earned five notable statewide and national recognitions in the 2026 rankings, including: 

• No. 1 Best Value College in Kentucky 
• No. 2 Most Affordable College in Kentucky 
• No. 4 Best College in Kentucky 
• No. 9 Most Popular College in Kentucky 
• No. 52 Best Private College in the U.S. 

These rankings reflect what students at Cumberlands already know: affordability and academic quality don’t have to be at odds. 

“I think the two main things that drew me to Cumberlands were the affordable price and how close to home it is for me,” said Riley Foster, a sophomore from McCreary County. “But now I’ve fallen in love with the community we have here.” 

For Riley and many others, the university’s affordability is just the beginning. The real value is found in the classroom experience. 

“Cumberlands’ science departments have given me the knowledge and opportunities to succeed and set me up for future success in medical school,” said Jackson Estes, a senior from Williamsburg, Kentucky.
