University of the Cumberlands faculty member completes statewide leadership development initiative focused on civic engagement and public service across Kentucky
Dana Campbell, Chair of the Physician Assistant Program at University of the Cumberlands, recently graduated from the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce’s Fellowship for Civic Leadership, a competitive, statewide initiative designed to cultivate business-savvy leaders with a heart for public service and community involvement.
Launched in 2024, the Kentucky Chamber’s civic leadership fellowship aims to bolster community engagement and prepare professionals to lead with integrity across sectors. The program’s inaugural cohort graduated in August 2025 after completing a year of immersive experiences, including direct engagement with elected officials, public policy discussions, and hands-on leadership training.
“The Fellowship for Civic Leadership was an invaluable experience that gave me a clearer understanding of what it takes to serve effectively, whether in elected office or through community leadership,” said Campbell. “It connected me with inspiring leaders from across Kentucky, offered practical tools I can use to make a meaningful impact, and deepened my commitment to shaping a stronger future for our region.”
As a physician assistant program chair at University of the Cumberlands, Campbell plays a key role in developing the next generation of healthcare providers. Her participation in the program highlights the university’s commitment to encouraging faculty to pursue leadership development opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.
Participants in the Fellowship represented a wide range of industries, from education and business to healthcare and nonprofit leadership, all united by a desire to strengthen Kentucky communities through principled service and free enterprise.
“We are proud to celebrate the first graduates of the Fellowship for Civic Leadership,” said Ashli Watts, President and CEO of the Kentucky Chamber. “This program was created to encourage more leaders to step forward in service to their communities, and its impact will grow as fellows put their skills, relationships, and experiences into action. We believe the benefits of their leadership will be felt across Kentucky for years to come.”
