Bachelor's Degree in Coaching

Mission and Goals

The Coaching degree program is designed to give students the tools they need to pursue a wide variety of careers in sports, including coaching, scouting and athletic administration. The purpose of the Health, Exercise and Sport Science (HESS) Department is to develop competent professionals who are able to integrate content knowledge and practical application skills appropriate to the setting. These coaching professionals will learn effective management, evaluative, analytical, and communication skills to successfully navigate various situations.

Upon completion of this undergraduate coaching degree program, graduates will be able to:

  • Further your studies with a four-year degree program or apply to graduate school
  • Meet requirements for professional positions in the field of sports and athletics
  • Effectively communicate competence related to HESS content

Coaching Degree Requirements 

Bachelor of Science in Coaching Major (Non-Teaching)

The bachelor's degree in coaching requires 37 semester hours in the following coaching major courses:

Three hours of HESS/ESS electives

Minor in Coaching

The coaching minor requires 24 semester hours in the following coaching courses:

Associate of Science with a Major in Coaching

24 semester hours as follows:

Six hours of HESS/ESS electives

WHAT CAN I DO WITH A BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN COACHING?

Your campus-based bachelor’s degree in Coaching, along with relevant industry experience, will give you the training and confidence you need to pursue mentoring and coaching careers in any organized sport, including positions as a:

COACHES AND SCOUTS1

With a 2021 median annual salary of $79,640, employment of postsecondary teachers is projected to grow 12 percent over the next decade.
