Bachelor's Degree in Church Music

Music is your passion. You have a desire to understand musical concepts, acquire and refine your musical skills, and become a positive advocate for the music arts. At University of the Cumberlands, we can help you can do just that. Our church music degree program will help you explore music as it relates to worship.

Comprised of outstanding professionals who truly care about helping you develop your talents, the music faculty of our Department of Music will train you to work with adults and to help children and young people further their enjoyment of music and their understanding of God’s plan.

You’ll have access to lecture rooms, nine studios, a rehearsal hall, several practice rooms, and a music education classroom, complete with a variety of teaching series and multiple instruments. We also have a 150-seat recital hall, electronic piano lab, and a computer-assisted instruction laboratory to help you succeed.

What can I do with a church music degree?

What kind of music ministry can you fulfill with a church music degree? Will it help you pursue church music jobs? Can you use it to begin a career as a church musician or land a church music director job? The good news is that a church music degree can be both spiritually fulfilling and financially solid.

As a graduate of UC's Church Music and Worship degree program, you’ll have the aptitude and proficiency necessary for pursuing a number of ministry positions, including music ministry positions in the local church, such as music director, choir director, or worship leader. Other options include continuing on to a master’s program or breaking into other career options, such as:

  • Performer/musician
  • Private or public-school teacher
  • Music teacher in a mission's setting
  • Researcher and composer for church music
  • Leader of missions and summer camps

In addition to degree requirements, all music majors will need to hold an audition to assess performance skills and keyboard proficiency. Also, as a church music major or minor, you will present a recital on your voice or primary instrument during your senior year.
